The password trap: 56% of internet users in Germany use the same password for more than one account
Whether online banking, online shopping, social media, or streaming services – anyone using digital services needs an account consisting of a username and password. While using a single password may seem convenient at first, it can quickly become a trap.
Because if one account is hacked, all other accounts can easily be accessed as well. For this reason, it is recommended to use a separate password for each account.
According to a recent Forsa survey commissioned by CosmosDirekt, more than half (56%) of internet users in Germany use the same password for more than one account. On the other hand, 41% protect their personal data by using a different password for each account.
When it comes to password habits, both “digital natives” and “digital immigrants” show similar levels of carelessness: 48% of people aged 60 and over use the same password for different, but not all, accounts. The same applies to 53% of 18- to 29-year-olds.
