Tallest wind turbine in the world: 365 meters

04.11.2025 General

Records are being broken here: the second-largest structure in Germany after the Berlin TV Tower is being built in the Brandenburg district of Oberspreewald-Lausitz.

From summer 2026, the “GICON® high-rise wind tower” (HWT) is intended to capture wind energy at previously unreachable and significantly more productive altitudes.

The turbine itself has a hub height of 300 meters, making it the tallest wind energy installation in the world. In contrast, “conventional” wind turbines reach about 140 meters.

Including the rotor blades, the structure reaches up to 365 meters into the sky.

Compared to standard wind turbines, GICON® estimates roughly double the electricity yield. The system will use a 3.8-megawatt turbine from VENSYS and is expected to generate around 18 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, enough to supply about 6,000 households.

According to company founder and managing director Prof. Jochen Großmann, the HWT opens up “new opportunities for green electricity production, even at locations with low wind conditions in the altitude ranges previously used.”

The project is being implemented on behalf of beventum GmbH, a subsidiary of SPRIND – Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation.
